This activity is designed to practice opening and closing tools like scissors.
In this activity the child gets to use his imagination as he works on promoting his fine motor skills and his ability to process tactile input. This is a fun activity to do in a small group for social interaction and promotion of language.
This activity promotes the use of scissors and helps the child imitate movements that are similar to the ones used for cutting. In addition, this activity develops the child's sensory processing through exposing him/her to the touch of water.
Using the tweezers to pick up the cherries helps reinforce functional grasp as the child holds the tongs in the same manner writing tool or scissors should be held. In addition, this activity works on visual perception as the child has to retrieve the cherry from a group of other cherries and place it into a small bucket.
This is a great activity to do in a group setting. However, it can be done with only one child as well. The goal of this activity is to use the clothespins to pass the cotton balls without letting them pile up in front of the child when the music stops.
