A Slippery Fish

Purpose

This activity promotes the use of scissors and helps the child imitate movements that are similar to the ones used for cutting. In addition, this activity develops the child's sensory processing through exposing him/her to the touch of water.

Materials

Container, Tongs, Water

Skills

Eye-Hand Coordination, Finger Strength, Pincer Grasp, Sensory Processing, Tripod Grasp

Description

Fill a container with water up to the mid line and put inside small floating objects (i.e. ice molds, fish toys, etc.). Have the child use the tongs to catch the objects and take them out of the water.

You may want to have some paper towels ready for this activity as it might get a bit wet.
